Biographical Background: Leigh Harris of LileighWhite.com
Leigh was 15 yrs of age when Peter Gabriel and Genesis came through NYC with the tour of “Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”, in 1975.
A devoted listener of WNEW-FM, Leigh was already a (rare, female) aficionado of the group, known so well for its classically-influenced melodies, their theatrical frontman and his fantastical, lyrically-visual musical tales.
Fate would not allow her to see Genesis perform The Lamb, live, as she was told she had homework to do ~ but this loss emboldened her to follow all the members of the group for the next 40 years, doing her best to make sure to present their combined or solo works in their best, original light.
The coincidental release of the live (WoflgangsVault.com) recording of the Lamb made in 1975 at the Shrine Auditorium, in Los Angeles led her to put together a comparative, track-by-track video series of it versus that which Genesis released as a rare “slightly-repaired” version on their Archive I collector’s volume.
Little known to many, much of the original vocal tracks had been revoiced by Peter Gabriel, at his RealWorld Studios, then artfully “flown-in” by Genesis’ lead audio engineer, Nick Davis, at their home studio of The Farm. A technical nightmare, in reality - as the edits were made in and amongst partial phrases - but made quite seamless by technical artistry and prowess.
Leigh built her original video series based on the Analysis of each track, its challenges and its allegorical meaning, according to Gabriel’s brilliant but sometimes mercurial writing style.
She has always believed that this was as close as Peter Gabriel was ever going to come in reuniting with Genesis.
It was his offering to the world of how he believed The Lamb was always supposed to be heard, save for that which he had originally hoped for via an Alejandro Jodorowsky film soundtrack.
This video series garnered many kudos…and direct contact…by others who either knew, worked with Peter Gabriel or long-admired his work.
She is both humbled and grateful for the many dear friends she has made through this unexpected window into her past (and the mutually-shared, the world-over) love of early Genesis.
A Television News/Radio Sports-Talk audio engineer, producer and technical director for 32 years in Arizona, Leigh now provides her audio expertise to the MLB, for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies during Cactus League Spring Training.
