No such thing as an accident....

Hi Lil,

Ok.....I stumbled upon this website by pure accident. They say there are no such things as accidents.

I have been a Genesis fan since 1973. I was lucky at a young age of 15 to catch all the shows with Peter in NYC at the Academy of Music. I still have the original Lamb playbill in plastic that was handed out back in 12/74.

Your site is amazing!!!

I have seen all of Peter's shows since his very first solo album. I was lucky to meet him and the band on their very first live performance of the first LP. That was at the Capital Theater in Passaic NJ in 1977.

I still love Peter's music and Steve Hackett's beautiful solo albums.

I have also caught every Steve Hackett solo performance in the NY area and met him many times through the years.

Your videos are inspiring and so detailed. I have found a Genesis fan unmatched. LOL.

Sincerely,
Michael

Lil smiles..and responds:  "With such warm praises...and from such a truly experienced early-Genesis concert-goer as yourself - I am truly humbled!  Thank you, dearest Michael!  Xoxo, Lil

Hi, Kenneth !

Thank you for all your kind comments.  Yes, you're right...it is a Labor of Love  and  a joy of my life to edit these videos for everyone (and for myself, as well.  *selfish chuckle*)
Hey, so very, very glad you are going to be able to catch Peter when he's back on tour, this coming Fall.
Take it from someone who was fortunate enough to see Gabriel's Back-to-Front Tour 5 times, in the U.S....it will BLOW YOU AWAY!!

Cheers to you, in Glasgow...from the (100-degree, today) Sonoran deserts of Arizona!

Cruise To The Edge...wow!

I've thoroughly enjoyed your analysis of the Genesis music, Lil.

I went on the cruise to the edge and thought you might be there to chat with in person. No such luck.

Rich

Lil responds (with envious tones):

Gosh, Rich...if I could have given either my Eye-Teeth or my rather limited bank account to have accomplished it - I would have LOVED to have been on board for that particular cruise, I assure you!
I'm hoping that you had as good a time as my Security Project (keyboardist) buddy - Dr. David Jameson had, seeing Steve Hackett, Chris Squire and all the rest of those Prog Rock legends perform?
I'm simply green with envy that you boys got to go...but, I had to soothe my jealous soul - LOL - with a quick drive over to La Mirada (LA) to catch Hackett's next Genesis: Revisited gig, this time on terra-firme...
It was mesmerizing!
Xoxo,  Lil

Genesis vs Marillion

Hi Lil,

Just would like to say Ive enjoyed your videos very much.

I am a long time Genesis fan and Im planning on seeing Steve in NY.
I play guitar and keyboards and find I really enjoy playing their songs but aside from that the complexity and structure of their material is so extraordinary.
The closest Ive ever heard to them in comparison would be the original Marillion but still nowhere near being close! lol
thanx... enjoy your site,

Rob

Hello Lileigh. My name is Dave & I live in CT.

First I want to say I'm sorry it took me SOOOO long to finally visit your website & start viewing your series on TLLDOB at the Shrine. The time & effort it took to research & produce your analysis shows that this has definitely been a labor of love. The series is very entertaining AND eye-opening. I had no idea how much went into the re-tracking of the Archive set and will be viewing it (listening to it) in a much different light than before.

I've been a Genesis/Gabriel fan since Watcher of the Skies broke onto the NYC airwaves in the early seventies.

I attended the Foxtrot tour, Selling England tour (x2) and TLLDOB tour which I saw in Passaic, NJ.
Had I known this would be the last time I'd see the band with Peter, I would have taken time off from school & seen more of the tour - A LOT more.

BTW, where is the best place to view your videos - your website, Vimeo or You Tube?

Also, is Colony of Slippermen Part 2 the last video you've done or are there more that I'm missing somewhere?

Again, thank you VERY much for the wonderful & insightful videos.

Dave

Lil says:
Hey, Dave!  I think that I can speak on behalf of ALL those who come to this site..and read of your incredible opportunities of seeing every U.S. visit when Genesis toured here with Peter Gabriel - that you are one VERY LUCKY man (and we are all quite jealous)!  LOL
Thanks so much for writing in (just as I am trying to catch up with everyone who's written me these past 6 months) - and asking about  my Analysis: Lamb videos..and the subject of Vimeo vs. YouTube.
I have nearly every one of the videos I was able to edit, to HD standards, up on Vimeo - for those of us who love the higher resolution and better (not-so-compressed) audio.
Vimeo does not have all of my collection, so far, however...as YouTube currently does.
This is due to my early days of shooting/editing with some non-HD capable equipment.
Both versions (when available) can be accessed through this website.

Soon, I plan on releasing a trilogy of Analysis: Lamb videos which go deeply into Gabriel's pivotal (and incredibly biographical) "Chamber of 32 Doors".  I will examine both the allegorical and the real-life referenced points within this song..and my collaborator - Tom Lord-Alge - will cover much of the recording values of the Archive vs Shrine recordings of the song, as well.
Look for it in May.....
I hope everyone will enjoy!
xoxo, Lil

*FOR SERIOUS LAMB FANATICS ONLY !!!*

A
n Analysis of the many allegorical layers, written by Peter Gabriel, within the pivotal song "The Chamber of 32 Doors" on the original Lamb Lies Down on Broadway album.

Jungian Archetype Theory, The Power of Myth's Hero's Journey and the Tibetan Book of the Dead provide the framework with which Gabriel wrote of his pending decision to leave Genesis.
Add onto that the visual work of "El Topo" director Alejandro Jodorowsky, as Peter's inspiration - and you have one, very serious surrealistic work of art.

WARNING/ADVISORY:   This trilogy of videos are DEEP (because these metaphysical/psychoanalytical works were what Peter Gabriel had been reading up until the uber-rushed writing of The Lamb)!
Although, he claims the lyrics are flawed - many still consider it a layered work of genius.
Part Surrealism, Part Metaphysical, Part Self Psychoanalytical.

These videos are the result of 2 years of intense research and many contributions by many people (several, quite close to Peter Gabriel & Genesis).

As Tony Robinson wrote for the 1970-1975 Genesis Box Set: "It's a mistake to think of the narrative as only having one meaning because every listener must create their own personal story."
This trilogy's analysis is not set in concrete.  It is meant to elucidate upon the metaphysical texts by which Peter was reaching to obtain his own new pathway (out of the band and into his own solo career, away from "Genesis-the-Big")....as well as start new discussions as to what the album meant to YOU, the listener.
From all of us who collaborated on these videos....ENJOY!!
