Hi Lil :)
I'm a great fan of Genesis' music, indeed my nickname for musical works is "rael" :) I bought the latest versions of the storical CD's, remastered once again and with a wider stereo effect..I've notice no substancial difference inside "Nursery Cryme", but I've noticed some interessing sound in the others...can you assure me about the fact that the old masters and the old tracks have been just "cleaned" without adding new sounds in the new editing?
Thanx!
rael.

Ooooo! Great question, Rael (Tom Drums)!
Ok...I am in a position, right now, to say I honestly have not heard of ANY new additional isolated, "sweetening" backing tracks being added to the STUDIO versions of Genesis re-mastered, original tracks.
But, being the uber-curious audio engineer that I am....I will promise that I will "sniff out" any leads along this excellent investigative line of questioning (being from TV news background & a rabid Nursery Cryme. et al fan, I must admit I can't help myself ;-)
From that tangent...I need some more information from you (as I would anyone asking this type of question):
WHICH recordings have you detected a discernible difference on - from Nick Davis' upgraded versions.
(I need you to give me the pertinent info on the "Before" stuff you are listening to...and the collection or re-release you have of the "After"- in order to replicate your exact listening experience & the conditions of the upgrade's identifiable mis-match.
Also, in general, for anyone including you - on ANY Genesis re-formatting: are you listening to the CD or the DVD re-caputulation? The stereo re-build, the digitally re-mastered/cleaned up...or the SACD/5.1 versions?
All of these delineations make a great deal of difference in finding the optimally correct answer - for any artist's older work.
Thus, with Nick's consistent 'next-generation' style of upgrading (of the same product)- it's so important to name off the product of that particular era(s), you own..and are making comparisons with.
Honestly, there are so many superlative choices to what Nick, Tony and others have done to "build a better beast" - as technology speeds by us - the chronological collectives offer a wondrous array of choices (and completely different mixes of the older tracks)...that I need to know exactly WHICH collection or recording to which you are referring - to start my own investigational track.
Capeesh? *grin*
I cannot promise a swift answer...but, I DO promise a honest answer - if and when I can glean the inside information on something as intricate as ....re-formatting, say, the Apollo Space Program to adequately service the Int''l Space station (to put it into technological perspective).
Hope this answer is good enough for you, at this point in time - for mutually curious minds. ;-)
All my thanks,
xo Lil
