Just wanted to say I have enjoyed your very professional cross-sections of the studio-side of Genesis. I also have been a fanatic since I was about 10 (1981) and have written some annotations to Supper's Ready here:

Ok, I admit it...I have been BESTED, here, Kris!

I clicked on your wikia-lyrics link...and was blown-away by the depth of research and the quality of the annotative writings - detailing Peter (and Tony, Mike, Phil & Steve's) lyrics on the full 23-minute "Supper's Ready".

I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who love this mesmerizing piece of early-Genesis' recorded music!

I would like to humbly put forth the suggestion that the "special fire" of the G.E.S.M. - is actually Nuclear War (as I denoted in my video piece).

Consider this:   that the "Lie of Peace" is actually Peter referring to growing up within the so-called Nuclear Deterrence Age . The lie that we are all safer by possessing a larger threat to that of our enemies.  

Coercive credibility (from Wiki):

A political superpower must demonstrate the capacity "to hurt another state and use it as a motivating factor for other states to avoid it and influence another state's behaviour. In order to be coercive or deter another state, violence has to be anticipated and avoidable by accommodation. It can therefore be summarised that the use of the power to hurt as bargaining power is the foundation of deterrence theory, and is most successful when it is held in reserve."

But, what happens when there is (as there has been demonstrably shown, in the past decade) a overrunning proliferation of nuclear weapons/material - falling into the hands of or being manufactured by errant, uncontrollable governments (Currently: Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, etc)..who do not have the inclination to "hold it in reserve".

This is where the "Lie" comes in to play, in my opinion, of the personal belief on which Gabriel was elucidating.

He was likely pointing to the high possibility of future diplomatic misunderstandings (and/or opposing political ideologies) leading to escalating mutual perceptions of threat, and a subsequent arms race elevating the risk of actual war (as in favorite movies like Dr. Strangelove). 

That nuclear weapons did not automatically and forever equal guaranteed peace.
