WHAT A FANTASTIC JOB YOU HAVE DONE!

I love it. I love seeing anyone as fanatical about Genesis/PG as me. I hit upon them around 1982 or 1983, when I was about 15 myself.

Naturally, I've seen The Musical Box about 4 or 5 times, now, including "Lamb" twice. The first time for Lamb it was pretty much perfect, but the most recent time here in Boston, his mic wasn't up at all for the whole quiet intro of "In the Cage" --- causing all of us to joke that "well, that's probably what it was like in '75!".

If only someone could really do a proper restoration of the concert film.

Anyway, I'm not one for religion but GOD BLESS YOU for your wonderfully detailed work and playful hosting. I'm very impressed!

Lileigh replies:

Hey, Joe ! (bad pun-intended...my apologies to both you and Hendrix!!  LOL)

Yes!  Yes!  I, too, attended the Musical Box's performance of LLDOB, at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston....and, I felt very badly for poor Denis - having to stand on that back right-corner riser, singing the intro to THE most exciting (and well-known) tune of the whole concept album - with no working microphone!  :-(
There were a myriad of technical probs, that night (including the lack of the Lamia's writhing-snake cone which descends then spins around Rael, covered in a white jumpsuit - meant to catch the blacklight glow when it is finally hoisted into the rigging.  Denis had to appear during that song - wearing his black "Nursery Cryme's Musical Box" encore jumpsuit - for the full song ).

But, despite the fact that ..YES! It was much like what the original Genesis had to face, technically, night-in, night-out with all the recalled "glitches"...so it WAS, indeed, "historically accurate" - as you just stated !  *amused guffaw*

Despite these flaws, the concert was a delight to see (it was one of 7 times l got to see the tour, this past Fall...and believe me - the tour was rife with historically-accurate tech problems - from L.A. - all the way to the East Coast...smoothing out considerably by the time I saw them in their dual shows at NYC's Tribeca PAC.  Which was INCREDIBLE - thanks to a promoter-rented, specially boosted sound system - which blew us all to the back wall when Sebastien - Mike Rutherford - hit those amazing bass pedals!!!!!!   *gleeful look, laugh*   Reminded me of the old "Memorex" commercials ;-)

Speaking of Tribeca - it was there that I was able to finish filming my "Vintage Instrument Tour" footage - with the help of Analog Mike Piera (who helps maintain and service all the vintage analog guitar fx pedals seen on stage with Francois - and other musicians)...and 3-time Grammy award-winning audio mix engineer Tom Lord-Alge.
Mike and I (once we get through our heavy Christmas holiday freelance work) - will be crafting a whole new addition to the "Analysis: The Musical Box" video series...which spotlights (in minute detail) the historically-accurate respective musician set-ups that TMB uses to replicate the EXACT instruments which were used in the RECORDING of the Lamb. (Notice I said "Recording"..and not "Touring"...for they actually differed!).
The most fascinating is Hackett's stuff....but, I won't give it all away...
I promise to have it all up by the end of the month...with Analog Mike doing a lot of the collaborative written descriptives to go along with my videos (for the really, really serious fan & interest musician).
Hope you enjoy, too!

all my best to you and yours, this holiday season....

xoxo Lil

*FOR SERIOUS LAMB FANATICS ONLY !!!*

A
n Analysis of the many allegorical layers, written by Peter Gabriel, within the pivotal song "The Chamber of 32 Doors" on the original Lamb Lies Down on Broadway album.

Jungian Archetype Theory, The Power of Myth's Hero's Journey and the Tibetan Book of the Dead provide the framework with which Gabriel wrote of his pending decision to leave Genesis.
Add onto that the visual work of "El Topo" director Alejandro Jodorowsky, as Peter's inspiration - and you have one, very serious surrealistic work of art.

WARNING/ADVISORY:   This trilogy of videos are DEEP (because these metaphysical/psychoanalytical works were what Peter Gabriel had been reading up until the uber-rushed writing of The Lamb)!
Although, he claims the lyrics are flawed - many still consider it a layered work of genius.
Part Surrealism, Part Metaphysical, Part Self Psychoanalytical.

These videos are the result of 2 years of intense research and many contributions by many people (several, quite close to Peter Gabriel & Genesis).

As Tony Robinson wrote for the 1970-1975 Genesis Box Set: "It's a mistake to think of the narrative as only having one meaning because every listener must create their own personal story."
This trilogy's analysis is not set in concrete.  It is meant to elucidate upon the metaphysical texts by which Peter was reaching to obtain his own new pathway (out of the band and into his own solo career, away from "Genesis-the-Big")....as well as start new discussions as to what the album meant to YOU, the listener.
From all of us who collaborated on these videos....ENJOY!!
